Usage guide

Make a wallpaper that actually works on e-ink

Most wallpaper tools fail on e-ink screens: the size is wrong, black bars appear, grayscale turns muddy, or the crop cuts away the subject. This guide keeps the workflow predictable from upload to export.

Step 1

Upload a source image

Use photos, illustrations, anime screenshots, scanned covers, or manga panels. The image is processed locally in your browser.

Step 2

Choose your e-ink device

Select Kindle, Kobo, BOOX, Hanvon, iReader, MeeBook, or PocketBook presets so the wallpaper matches the exact screen size.

Step 3

Pick a composition mode

Use Fit to keep the whole image, Fill for full-screen atmosphere, or Stretch for simple artwork and solid backgrounds.

Step 4

Tune the e-ink look

Adjust contrast, brightness, sharpness, gamma, blur, grayscale method, and dithering until the image keeps its mood on a monochrome screen.

Step 5

Export and copy to your reader

Download PNG, BMP, or JPEG with an EinkDashboard filename prefix, then import it using the workflow your device supports.

Choose the right scale mode

Fit

Preserves the full image ratio. Best when the subject must not be cropped; margins may appear.

Fill

Crops overflow while filling the screen. Best for photos, scenes, and artwork where atmosphere matters.

Stretch

Forces the image to the target size. Best for flat graphics, patterns, or solid-background artwork.

Tune for real e-ink texture

Raise contrast slowly; too much contrast can crush soft gradients.

Use gamma to recover midtones when grayscale conversion feels flat.

Add sharpness for manga, line art, and text-heavy images.

Keep dithering off for smooth photos; try Atkinson or Floyd-Steinberg for crisp black-and-white texture.
